Sashaman was once the Greater Dust Shaman, overseeing all the Vaulter tribes that roamed the desert plains. However, the desert plains soon came under relentless attacks from Gaian extremists at the forest edges. In an act of desperation, Sashaman pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable for Vaulter witchcraft, and forged her own soul with that of a great beast of the desert plains. Sashaman succeeded at driving out the raiders, and deterred them from ever returning. However, it came at a great expense. She was banished from the desert, and from the tribes themselves, with her soul being lost forever.
